A pond in Honiton was in desperate need of a major overhaul, as It had not been touched for many years. Only a few fish have survived owing to its state, and the owners are looking forward to restocking it once the work has been completed.
Also on the customers wish list, was the addition of a small waterfall at the far end of the pond, to allow the water returning from a filter in the near by garage, to be able to return to the pond, rather than just through a pipe.
The pond was badly designed when first built, with angled sides and no shelves for plants etc.
So Ponds Are Me Ltd got to work, and removed many, many years of pond plants and indeed plenty of silt and muck. Once emptied, the old pvc liner was removed so as we could then introduce some shelving in the pond. It was decided that we would add a shelf all the way around the pond, as well as straightening the edges, rather than angled sides to the pond.
It was at this stage we started to construct the waterfall at the far end. This was an enjoyable feature to build, and was finished off by using several sizes of river pebbles. The end result certainly fitted in well and looked a fantastic addition to the pond
Once the pond was to a satisfactory shape internally we placed in a top quality underlay, and on that we then laid a butyl rubber liner. Once this was in place and manoevered around to reduce the amount of crease and folds, it was time to start refilling.
Once the pond was filled, the finishing touches were made to the liner and we set about laying the new edging stones. This was done in addition to the introduction of a small pea gravel to border these new edgings with the existing patio stones, again the finishing result was stunning.
So just one more task before the project came to an end, and this was the reintroduction of a stunning 30 year old hand made fountain, thought lost many years ago to the bottom of the pond and the vegetation. This was indeed found and cleaned and then reattached to the pond pump to run alon side the new waterfall. Quite a beautiful handmade water feature this, and made a fantastic finishing touch to the pond.
